Throughout the first week of February 2025, Somali Legal Hub conducted a comprehensive Human Rights Awareness Campaign across five districts of the Benadir region, reaching over 500 community members with vital legal education.

The campaign — which operated in Hodan, Wadajir, Waberi, Hamar Weyne, and Dharkenley — included community workshops, street-level information stands, school visits, and radio broadcasts on local FM stations.

Teams of SLH lawyers and paralegals delivered sessions on fundamental human rights, women's legal rights, child protection laws, property rights, and how to access the justice system. Special attention was given to explaining the legal protections available to internally displaced persons (IDPs).

The campaign was conducted in partnership with local community leaders, mosque committees, and women's groups — who played a critical role in mobilizing community attendance and ensuring the sessions reached the most vulnerable residents.

At each location, community members had the opportunity to ask legal questions directly to our lawyers. Many attendees reported that this was their first time receiving any form of legal education.

Somali Legal Hub plans to expand this community outreach program to additional regions of Somalia throughout 2025, with the goal of reaching 5,000 people by year-end.
